About the author
J.R. Caldwell (1839-1917) was born in Dublin but raised in Glasgow. The waves of the 1859 revival were being felt and, at one meeting, he realised he had never been born again and he came to faith. At once, the Bible became a living book to him and he developed into a very useful minister, gospel preacher and writer. He was the editor of the periodical The Witness from 1876-1914.
